Junkanoo Festival, George Town, The Bahamas

Junkanoo parades are typical Bahamian holiday traditions that take place either on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas), January 1st or both. It's history is somewhat vague, but you can read one version on the Bahamian site www.junkanoo.com. There is however no question that the festivals are always loud, flashy and fun! We were anchored in George Town, Exumas on Boxing Day and had an opportunity to get up at 2 am in the morning to see the great parade with its fantastic costumes.

Because the costumes are very elaborate, most of the images on the website are larger than normal to allow you see the detail. Enjoy!
